This is an exceptionally well preserved early U. S. Army noncommissioned officers sash dating from approximately the Mexican American War to the early antebellum period. Woven in a strong crimson wool material, it retains its open weave body, rounded Turks head knots, full tassels, and unusually vivid color. The sash measures approximately eight feet long. Sashes served as visible badges of military rank and office
